Ọ̀wọ́nrin Méjì on the Importance and Usage of Ọ̀pẹ̀ (sacred Palm Tree)
When the Ọ̀pẹ̀ (sacred palm tree) was thinking of coming to earth. It asked the advice of Ifá on how to be successful but also how It could benefit the world. Ọ̀wọ́nrin showed up. When Ọ̀pẹ̀ came to earth:
Its palm-fronds were cut and turned into brooms. Money was realized. Its Palm kernels were used to make Palm-oil. Money was realized. The palm-nuts were broken and the shells were used as fuel. Money was realized. The nuts were grinded and palm-kernel oil was extracted. Money was realized. Other chose to extract palm-wine from the palm-tree instead of palm-kernel. Money was realized. The trunk was used to make rafters and small bridges, money was made. The palm-nut was also used to make Lágídígba beads which women used to adorn their waists. Money was realized, the newly sprouted palm-fronds were used to decorate several shrines. Ikin was also extracted from some palm trees which Ifá priests use for Ifá consultation. A lot of money was realized. The Ikin (sacred palm nuts) were also used to guide, protect, advise, direct and mould people's characters. In short, there is no part of the palm tree which is of no benefit to us.
